203a PLT Technologies – Self Study

Course Description

According to the NIH ", 95% of all disease is caused by stress". The PLT Technologies Course explores the use of polychromatic light therapy (PLT) as a novel, noninvasive and highly effective stress management tool. This five-module course emphasizes the fundamental concepts of stress management and polychromatic light technology. Students who complete this course gain a thorough understanding of the physiology of the stress response, allostatic load, and overload, and the role of the mitochondria in the stress response. We discuss the basic concepts of light technology: light emitting diodes (LEDs), photons, pulsed rates, and photobiomodulation (PBM). Then, we integrate the evidence-based physiologic impact of polychromatic light technology right down to the cellular photobiomodulation (PBM) response in the mitochondria. This unique approach to PLT education provides a foundation for polychromatic light therapeutics thoroughly explored in the next core course titled "PLT Therapeutics". The course is supplemented with support materials, videos, and relevant research articles.

The SELF-STUDY COURSE (featured) is offered as a correspondence course with five audio-visual modules to be studied at your own pace. Each Module has a workbook with study questions, recommended reading, annotated references and a brief quiz to submit for your CEUs.

The TELEPHONIC Course is offered in five-modules taught via Zoom live/interactive meeting format. The instructor presents one module per meeting which typically lasts between 60 - 90 minutes depending on student participation. This is a highly interactive teaching format allowing students the opportunity to ask questions as the course progresses. Preparation for each module is encouraged and supported by the Course Workbook questions and reference materials. Downloading the ZOOM meeting app to your computer is encouraged, however, not required as telephone access codes are provided upon registration. CEUs will be granted upon completion of the course evaluation.
